I love our Thrive Church staff meetings! I love our team. I’m pretty protective of our staff culture and so when it comes to these meetings, I don’t want them to be a waste of time.
That’s one of my biggest pet peeves, meetings that don’t have a plan.
We laugh. We tell stories. We plan. We pray. We learn. We discuss. We dream.
And, we read scripture together. Lately, we’ve been opening our staff meeting with a little S.O.A.P (Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer).
Since we’re very close to our 4 year anniversary as a Church, we went back to the scripture that ignited the passion in our team to plant Thrive Church.
This is the passage of scripture that we studied as we planted Thrive Church.
Scripture: Acts 2:42-47The Message (MSG)
41-42 That day about three thousand took him at his word, were baptized and were signed up. They committed themselves to the teaching of the apostles, the life together, the common meal, and the prayers.
43-45 Everyone around was in awe—all those wonders and signs done through the apostles! And all the believers lived in a wonderful harmony, holding everything in common. They sold whatever they owned and pooled their resources so that each person’s need was met.
46-47 They followed a daily discipline of worship in the Temple followed by meals at home, every meal a celebration, exuberant and joyful, as they praised God. People in general liked what they saw. Every day their number grew as God added those who were saved.
- Their numbers grew
- They lived in harmony
- People looked in from the outside and people wanted what they had
- Pooled their resources
- They Committed
- Harmony comes because of a deep commitment
- Community was LIFE to them. Our culture nowadays is do it all by yourself
- Commitment is a daily decision
- Getting together to Celebrate
- Gathered together, Scattered everywhere
- Unity and Harmony
- People would be in AWE of God
- Model that kind of joy and that people would be drawn to it
To be honest, it’s easy to get discouraged sometimes about the CHURCH and my church. The bickering, people leaving, the financial worries, seemingly everything else is more important in peoples lives than the Church.
But, when I go back to this passage of scripture I know that God has a tremendous plan for the Church in the days to come and in the future.
I am praying and will continue to pray that Thrive Church does everything we can to live out this passage of amazing scripture!
