You will find a lot of things when you check out Thrive Church.
Some of them are great, some of them are not so great.
But, there are 5 things I hope you will NEVER find.
Because these 5 things have the potential to crush our church. They could totally derail us from our crystal clear mission and vision as a church and I don’t want that, EVER!
In fact, I’m so crazy passionate about making sure these don’t slip into our church and culture, that I spend a good amount of time talking about them and casting vision so our church knows them and avoids them.
What are they? Great question!
5 Things you won’t find…hopefully
1. A lack of Passion for Jesus.
Not ever going to happen! Every single Sunday, and in every growth group, we will always live out our passion for Jesus.
My hope is that the person checking out Thrive for the first time will walk away with this thought…”I have to meet Jesus”! So, we will always present the gospel on Sundays and give people an opportunity to respond.
And, we will always point people to Jesus in whatever life situation they find themselves in.
Jesus is our hope.
2. People who pretend they’re perfect
My hope is that you just won’t find these kind of folks at Thrive Church! Why? Because it’s EASY to act on Sunday, but when your other six days don’t match up, what’s the purpose.
In fact at Thrive, we use the phrase…no perfect people allowed…all the time. There is no need to pretend you have it all together. There is no need to try to impress someone. There is no need to be someone else.
Just be you. If you have baggage, bring it. If your life sucks right now, we’ll be there for you. If you need people to pray for you, we will.
Like Perry Noble says, ‘it’s ok to not be ok, but it’s not ok to stay that way’.
3. A popularity contest
If you want a ‘Desperate Housewives’ kind of church, Thrive will not be your church! Again, you don’t have pretend you have it all together. Honestly, we won’t be all that impressed with fancy stuff. We care the most about your heart!
“Above all else else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it” ~Pr. 4:23
We are ridiculously concerned with making sure NO one is left out. Our desire is that everyone will be so welcomed, accepted and love that they will leave Thrive thinking…”I am wanted there”!
So, please don’t bring an exclusion attitude with you! Everyone is welcome. Everyone is wanted. Everyone will be accepted.
5. A Perfect Pastor
Yeah, so, this is just not going to happen. I struggle like everyone else. I doubt. I get impatient. I worry. I believe the lies satan puts in my head. I’m not a super smart seminary trained pastor. I don’t wear ties. I hate suits. I hate tucking in my shirt. I like to wear t-shirts.
But, I love Jesus…desperately. I love my family. I love my church. I love to read. I love to learn. I love to grow. I love to laugh. I love to have fun. I love to pray. I love God’s word. I love people. I love when people find and follow Jesus. I love when others succeed. I love when people come together to worship Jesus. I love the church.
So, if you’re ok with not having an Ambercrombie and Fitch looking pastor and someone who doesn’t have it all together in his life, then Thrive is going to be great for you!
Hopefully, HOPEFULLY, you won’t find these things at Thrive! EVER!
If you do, tell me, let’s kick them out together!
