A Powerful Moment at Camp

*I wrote this post last Wednesday night but am just now getting around to posting it.

The last two weeks have been a blur. photo

I’ve slept in my own bed once in the last 10 days.

Why? Because I have been a part of 2 amazing summer camps for students as the speaker.

Last week I was one of the speakers for CIY MIX and this week I’ve been the speaker for Camp Velocity. Both are amazing camps. Both do an amazing job of pointing students to Jesus.

This is my second year of being a part of MIX and believe it or not, my 7th year being a part of Velocity. My first year was 10 years ago!!! How crazy is that?!?

For some reason, one that I can never figure out, God keeps opening doors for me to passionately share scripture and Jesus with students. It’s an honor and a blessing that I do not take lightly.

But, right now, I’m typing this during an amazing time of worship. Yes, I know I should be focused on worship, but I just had to get this post written because of what I’ve experienced this week.

Not only do the leadership of Camp Velocity do an amazing job, our worship leader this week (@philwing) has just killed it in leading us toward Jesus.

If you’ve never been in a room with hundreds or thousands of students worshipping, you are missing out!

These powerful moments are incredible and remind that there is a BRIGHT future ahead for the Church!

3 Musts for this Sunday

Tomorrow is Sunday!

You know that!

 But, Yes, I am excited!

I was not at Thrive last week and I missed it like crazy!

So, tomorrow is a HUGE day and I wanted to make sure you knew what was going on!

3 Musts

1. New Series-Simply Irresistible. We start a brand new series and we’re going to talk about what it would take for our Church to be just that…Simply Irresistible.

Our vision for our church is that unchurched people would find Thrive irresistible! So, we’re going to dig down deep and see what God has for His church in scripture and see if Thrive is living that out.

Don’t miss this!

2. After Party. If you’re newer to Thrive. Like, you’ve just started coming in the last few weeks or months, this is for you. If you’re a veteran, this one is not for you! Sorry!

Or, if you’ve never attended one of these, head on out. Kids can swim, play, we’ll eat and I’ll do my best to answer any questions you have about the church!!

3. Baptism & BBQ is coming! Have you been baptized? If not, why not? What’s holding you back? It’s time to take that step. It’s a HUGE part of our faith and our walk and it’s a moment for you to go public with your faith.

So, if you would like to be baptized on August 17th, please email me at jason.raitz@thrivechurchmi.cc!

Can’t wait to see you tomorrow!

Thrive Church…3 Musts to know for Sunday

It’s that time of the week! We are just days away from…10481762_10154314987200235_3889555603921159035_n

Sunday at Thrive!!!

I don’t know about you, but it’s amazing how quick the week can go by when you’ve been looking forward to something all week.

So, I wanted to make sure you knew what was going on at Thrive this Sunday.

Before that, a quick story.

Last week at Dad Fast, I had a conversation with a person who had been praying and asking their dad to come to church for over 10 years. And, honestly, after 10 years of asking, they were ready to give up. They were at Thrive a few Sunday’s ago and heard about Dad Fest and decided to take another shot of asking their dad to come to church. Much to their surprise, he agreed to come. This person had been praying all week for his experience at Thrive. Well, loved it. He kept saying it was so much different than his last church experience and he was coming back next week.

I will never forgot the hug that accompanied this story! God’s up to something big!

In case you missed last Sunday, here are a few links that will help you catch up:

3 Musts for Sunday

1. Heath McNease is at Thrive this Sunday! This is just awesome! He is a crazy talented singer, songwriter and musician and he’s at Thrive this Sunday to lead the music and worship. This is a GREAT Sunday to invite a friend, a co-worker or a family member that God has been laying on your heart!

2. Pray for our church. Do you regularly pray for our church? Do you ask God for His blessing and favor on our community? Do you thank God for what He’s doing at Thrive?

If the answer is no or sometimes or I haven’t thought about it. Will you start praying? Will you start praying regularly, even everyday? Even if you can take a few minutes on your commute, that would be HUGE!

3. After Party. Next Sunday, June 29th, is our next…

After Party

If you’re new to Thrive in the last few months and want to learn more about Thrive, hear more about our vision, meet me and our staff and enjoy a great lunch. Then RSVP to info@thrivechurchmi.cc and let us know how many of you are coming.

There will be swimming for the kids and some time to hang out.

Can’t wait till this Sunday at Thrive!

What I LOVED about Dad Fest and Thrive this past Sunday

This past Sunday at Thrive was just absolutely amazing!

No really, I know I say this a lot, but it…

For me personally, I think it was our BEST SUNDAY yet at Thrive Church.

We attempted a HUGE undertaking and God blessed us, our volunteers were amazing and Thrivers brought friends and family big time!

In case you missed it, here’s what we did:Processed with VSCOcam with f3 preset

We decided to learn from some other amazing churches (Willow Creek being one of them) that use an event called Dad Fest to give people a tool to invite the men (and family) in their lives to church. Men or family who normally wouldn’t consider coming to Church, we give them a little extra incentive.

We had our normal Sunday morning Thrive experience and then we had some cool cars to look at, inflatable events, BBQ, A BBQ competition, a live band and tons of water balloons.

It was just spectacular.

So, here is a list of what I loved about last Sunday:

1. God changing hearts. I can’t even begin to process all the conversations I had with people who shared with me what God is doing in their lives.

People who weren’t a part of a church this time last year.

People who never thought they would end up in a church.

Dads–Men who told me this was the first time they’ve been in church in years and they’re coming back!

2. God using our Thrive team. This was a HUGE undertaking! We did not have the man power on paper to pull off this event. About a week and a half before the event, I started to find out just how many families were going to be missing.

Honestly, I was a bit nervous and scared. Ok, I was worried! Last Thursday on my prayer walk, God and I worked it out, but wow!

But, we just have amazing volunteers at Thrive Church! They are totally committed to our mission of helping people find and follow Jesus!

People filled water balloons, made BBQ, set and tore everything up and down, talked with people, served peopled and loved on people!

3. God planting seeds for what will come. I talked to so many Thrivers who are dreaming and thinking about the future of our Church.

That is exciting!

It was so much fun bouncing from conversation to conversation and hearing people just dream about ways that Thrive can reach out to the community!

I’ve said it a million times.

I love my church.

I am honored to be a part and so thankful!

To Thrive Church and the Thrive Volunteers

To Thrive Church and the Thrive Volunteers,

I love you. I really do. And, I so proud of our church.

Today we are taking a HUGE step for a church our size. We’re hosting an event that has the potential and power to reach an amazing amount of people…especially men. Which is HUGE!

And, we’re doing this today even though were missing some of our regular high impact volunteers.

To be honest, there were a few times this past week that I let the anxiety of hosting this event get to me. I had to keep going back to the basics:

  • Taking a prayer walk
  • Opening up God’s word
  • Reading God’s word
  • Believing God’s word
  • Thanking God
  • Listening

You have been amazing. Praying. Praying some more. Texting me that you were praying. Inviting friends and family. Inviting some more. Praying for them.

Many of you have worked your butts off for today!

  • Filling water balloons
  • Making food
  • Buying food and drinks
  • Working on details
  • Making calls
  • Setting up

Here’s what I know…we’re not doing this in vain! There are men, dads, grandpa’s, uncles, moms, kids, women that are coming today that would have normally never come to Church…That’s just HUGE!

Let’s be praying. Let’s humbly seek God and ask Him to pour open the floodgates of heaven today.

We are only 9 months old, but God is up to something HUGE in our midst. Keep trusting Him, Keep looking to Him, Keep crying out to Him, Keep calling out to Him and Keep looking outward!!

Again, you’re loved!

What I want for Father’s Day

Father’s Day is tomorrow.

Don’t even get me started about how quick time is flying by! But, anyways, it’s tomorrow.

I am excited for a bunch of reasons:

1. I love my dad. He’s the best. A great dad, a great man and I can’t wait to tell him.

2. I love being a dad. The best! I love my kids and I love this privilege that God has given me.

3. I love my church and we’re loving on dads tomorrow.

Earlier in the week, my wife asked what I wanted for Father’s Day. That’s a good question. We’re in and have been in a season where we really don’t buy gifts for each other…my wife and I. Birthdays, Christmas, Mothers Day, Fathers Day. Lot’s of bills to pay and the kids have greater needs than we do.

But, I have been thinking about that question more and more. And, I think there are some things I want for Father’s Day.

What I want for Father’s Day

1. I want–hope–believe–pray for my kids to love Jesus with every ounce of their being. I pray daily they won’t walk away from their faith, but they will hold onto it and continue to grow. I pray that everyday they will fall more in love with Jesus.

2. I want–hope–believe–pray that my kids will be reckless worshippers. That they will live their lives in such a way that they worship God with their lifestyle. When it comes to singing worship, I pray everyday that they would be passionate worshippers.

3. I want–hope–believe–pray for my kids to love the local church and to love their love church. My hope and prayer is that church will never become dull to them or they will look for ways to get out of it.

4. I want–hope–believe–pray that my kids will radically change their and the world. I pray everyday that my kids would see others with God’s eyes. That compassion and mercy and love would flow through them to people who are desperately in need of them.

I know there’s more, but that pretty much sums up what I want for Father’s Day. New tech gadgets would be cool, but I would love for my kids to Love God passionately and to loves others selflessly.
